Application 24/02821 – Stafferton Way - BT Hub

Comments on Application 24/02821 – Stafferton Way - BT Hub

1 x BT Street Hub and associated display of advertisement to both sides of the unit following the removal of 2 x associated BT phone kiosks.

We have objected previously to applications for the erection of BT street Hubs in Maidenhead Town Centre – especially in the High Street Conservation Area. We will continue to do so.

This application is in a commercial / retail park location to the south of the town centre. However, the need for such an intrusive piece of street furniture is unclear in this location. The positioning appears to be close to the existing bus stop outside Lidl on the south side of Stafferton Way. The application heading asserts that there are existing phone kiosks which will be removed. No such structures exist, and indeed the photos which support the application are of two kiosks located in BRIDGE ROAD and NORFOLK ROAD – not Stafferton Way. We do not believe that  such additional street furniture/structures should be introduced where none currently exist – especially for commercial/advertising purposes.

RBWM requires a clear policy regarding unwarranted street furniture and advertising. Such structures should be restricted to road safety/ route directions/ public information. In the absence of the alleged phone kiosks clarification is required regarding the ownership of the actual footpath at the proposed location.
