Further Comments Applications 24/00842 – 00843 Maidenhead Court Boathouse

Consent to display 1 x illuminated and 1 x non illuminated wall mounted signs, and 3 x non-illuminated post mounted signs (00842–Advertising / 00843–Listed Building) .

These comments are in addition to those made in our letter of 17th April. Please register as an objection to both applications above.

Following a site visit it is noted that this application should be retrospective. The signs are already erected, and on the towpath frontage in addition to the applied for post mounted advertising sign, there is a large multi coloured banner attached to the metal fence of the compound. Whatever the outcome of these applications for permanent signage, this temporary banner should not be permitted within the Conservation Area and should be removed.

Although the metal fencing of the compound is set back from the towpath it is obviously required for safeguarding reasons. However, the proposed installation has destroyed the visual aspect of the building which should be protected both by Listing and Conservation Area policies. We fail to understand why there were no objections from the Conservation Officer “from a conservation perspective” to the proposals. It is difficult to support such an intrusive boundary structure which fails to maintain and enhance the character of the building and location as required in a Conservation Area.
