Application 26/01004/LBC - Maidenhead Library

Comments on Application 26/01004/LBC  Consent for internal works to install cable trays, external works to including repair, repointing and replacement of brickwork, cleaning of the building, refurbishment, landscaping and redecoration.  Maidenhead Public Library St Ives Road Maidenhead SL6 1QU.

The design, access and heritage statement by Heritage Fusion, section 3 (Architectural), states “The building is in a very poor state of repair”. It is regrettable that this listed civic building has been allowed to deteriorate to such an extent. The Civic Society endorses all planning applications (including this one) that seek to maintain listed buildings and structures in good condition without adversely affecting their appearance. Such steps should be taken before such buildings and structures deteriorate to the extent that they are no longer fit for purpose. It is not known if the work listed in this application addresses all the points that have given rise to the statement “a very poor state of repair”.

When such renovations are undertaken, it is frequently found that previously unknown defects come to light. It is hoped that the Council has allocated sufficient funds to address any such defects as and when they are discovered, without the need to return later to address them, causing further disruption to library users.
